Dear Jukebox Creator,

Thank you for writing for me - I look forward to reading your 'fic!

Treats: Yes please.

General Do Not Wants: Explicit Sex or Porn Without Plot (foreplay, fade to black, and other bits of suggestiveness are otherwise fine and encouraged), Omegaverse, Pregnancy (Male or otherwise), Kid 'fic, Infidelity, Character Bashing, Issuefic (first definition on Fanlore), prepubescent underage (so, single digits underage), Entirely Chatlog 'Fic, Breakup 'Fic, Trans Angst focus, Transphobia being overtly depicted/directed at characters, 100% Yearning/Pining 'Fic, 100% Fluff.
General Likes: A willingness to stay in the not-quite-definite territory even expanding songs to ‘fic, blending romantic and platonic love, playing with the intersection of sex/romance/desire & death (if tonally appropriate).

The Questions Still Entertain Me - Hussalonia (Double Fantasy)
Specific Do Not Wants: Despite the incontrovertible influence of John Lennon on both this song and the album it’s from, I’m not looking for Beatles RPF. Also, despite the more autobiographical nature of this song, I’m not looking for Hussalonia Founder RPF either. In the RPM blog that comes with the album, the Founder states pretty explicitly what it’s about, which I am partially ignoring.
Specific Likes: Out of all the threads in this song, I do think the Beleaguered Performer is my favorite. I'll be sweeping in spotlight, every traffic light a stage for me tonight...

Hussalonia songs tend to be better when they’re immediately identifiably about a single thing—this one is not. Instead it flits between at least three subjects: the beleaguered performer, the seeker, the rabbit (and all the threads it weaves), each not quite clear exactly in how it relates to the others but making a harmonious gauzy tapestry nevertheless. The Beleaguered Performer, committed to a stage that destroys him: You will get my best… The Seeker, running in circles for the pictures it makes: I want to look where I know there is no cure…

I am the rabbit you’re depending upon - I was the walrus, but now I’m John! Self-assertion via escape into someone else, doublefold. A beleaguered performer, a shaking off of the past now prepended with the origins of that very past; the little white rabbit, followed as it scampers down, down, down. A sea of objects, ephemera from everyday life suspended underwater. A mysterious song at least a little bit about mysteriosity. Right?

He's My Man - Luvcat
Specific Do Not Wants: No twists where the relationship is secretly horribly abusive in either direction - it's obviously skewed given the murder, but I picture that murder as the conclusion to a silent build-up of long-term longing.
Specific Likes: The "playing with the intersection of sex/romance/desire & death (if tonally appropriate)" of the general likes is pretty much applicable to just this song.

I feel like it's pretty self-explanatory of where to go with this, since it's a story song. I want to the narrator to lovingly murder this dude and absolutely relish the process.

Nowhere Man - The Beatles
Specific Do Not Wants: A work that is entirely Beatles RPF where you're just writing about John Lennon or someone else (a blend of RPF and the song itself a la four sides of the eternal triangle is okay)
Specific Likes: There's just something about the chime-like conclusion to the guitar solo.
Go wild and experimental with this one! It's a little dreamy, this song. The whole nowhereland, and all...which could be anything.

comments

Right?

Passerby - Dave Smallen
Specific Likes: The sound in this one is probably the backbone of what it makes me feel. The chilly air seemingly nestled in the spaces in this song. Quiet resilience, but also resignation?
A frigid, frostbitten town. Existence seems glacial. There’s an omnipresent feeling of being late, maybe even too late, for this, for life. The days are almost blinding, the sun refracted and broken on white ice, and the nights expansive in their emptiness. A single streetlight. Connection sincere and felt but also quietly kind of desperate. This ain’t my scene, this ain’t my scene, this ain’t my society… and I’m afraid I cannot ask for more.

Maggie May - Rod Stewart (Every Picture Tells a Story)
Specific Do Not Wants: Please do not side step the underage/barely legal interpretation or write this as healthy or normally balanced relationship.
Specific Likes: Less is probably more in terms of emotionality here. The awkward-ish nature of the lyrics (seemingly inadvertantly) reinforce the narrator's age, but the prose style definitely doesn't have to be.
Man. I don’t really have feelings about Rod Stewart, but I do love this song, in a way. I can’t speak for the specific experience of Stewart’s that spurred it, but despite the sometimes awkward (adolescent, even) lyricism, I haven’t really found a song that quite captures being an underage or barely legal boy with a (perhaps worryingly) older adult woman. It’s not one of “scoring” and neither is it one of innocence defiled by a monster. Instead it’s being caught up, thrilled, captured (intoxicated?), but also unerringly aware that things aren’t quite how they should. There’s genuine affection but also an awareness of where the scales lie. Knowing you’ve been changed, perhaps in a way that’s permanently separate from the rest of the world, even if you can’t express it in the tones of righteous rage. But a little bit of hope, too: I’ll get on back home one of these days…

St. Elmo's Fire - (Brian) Eno (Another Green World)
Specific Likes: Verbal canvas?
Some of Eno’s best lyrics. The clicking of the pre-drum machine rhythm generator. A flurry of a journey, feels like maybe it happened in a single night. Maybe in the mind. Something could be made out of why Narrator and Brown Eyes are here. But the sense of place and the texture… that’s what I really love. Oh, and that Wimhurst solo. Obviously inspired by Another Green World’s cover, but I do get the paper-cut vibe.

comments

Dear Candy Hearter,

Thank you for writing for me, I look forward to reading your 'fic. My AO3 is Disworl. Herein lies my letter detailing a bit more of my specifications of my various requests.

Also, treats: yes, please.

General Do Not Wants: Explicit Sex or Porn Without Plot (foreplay, fade to black, and other bits of suggestiveness are otherwise fine and encouraged), Omegaverse, Pregnancy (Male or otherwise), Kid 'fic, Non-con (unless the relationship is anagonistic in canon and therefore in line with that), Infidelity, Character Bashing, Issuefic (first definition on Fanlore), prepubescent underage (so, single digits underage), Entirely Chatlog 'Fic, Breakup 'Fic, Trans Angst focus, Transphobia being overtly depicted/directed at characters, Unreciprocated/Onesided of the Requested Relationships, 100% Yearning/Pining 'Fic.
General Likes: Earnest emotionality wherein the love felt by characters is readily apparent (as long as it's in line with the 'ship's tone and in character), gore/body horror/anything playing with an intersection of sex/romance/desire & death (as long as it's in believable for the 'ship), Character studies, Blending romantic and platonic love (relationships that defy that categorization, relationships that stay unified whilst flipping between one or the other, batshit codependent essentially married completely platonic best friends, best friend sex, et cetera).

Homestuck

Fandom Specific Do Not Wants: Permanent Major Character Death (Stuff like Aradia's temporary death does not count), Genderbends except for in Beta OT4 or M/F* JohnDirk (Trans woman J. Egbert is fine, but I give no fucks about the post-canon changes and the specific idea of "June" Egbert, so I use a different name like Joan), Anything leaning too hard on Hiveswap/Homestuck^2/The Homestuck Epilogues/Pesterquest because I haven't paid attention to those at all.

Fandom Specific Likes: A strong sense of place re: Alternia, Epistolary 'fic (so long as it's not just pesterblogs).

Solkat: I'm still 'shipping this in 2024 like a hopeless fucko in love - luckily, that works for these two! The way Sollux and Karkat relate to each other as two damned kids trying to get by in the uncertainty of Alternian society. They're at their best in a quadrant mush, because their feelings vacillate so hard, but it's clear that they have this intense connection their bickering can cover only so much. The awkward teenage boy kind of douchebaggy kindness.

Aradia & Karkat: I love Aradia so much, and I love Karkat so much too. MVP Aradia all the way, put threw the wringer of time but she ends up happy. Karkat's thing with blood isthat he connected people, but we never really saw him with Aradia, and I think that's a little bit of a missed opportunity. This bit at the end of Summerteen Romance always gave me the feeling that there could've been more of a friendship than what we'd seen: "Aradia, though. She was so important to our story and you killed her off before yours even started. [...] It just figures that the one friend who we had who might actually already be happy became a miserable ghost of her real self under your leadership." ...If you read between Karkat's immense self-loathing, that is.

JohnDirk: Pranks and hijinks abound - two ridiculous brains being carried by meaty fleshbags being forced to be known and realize how absurd they both are. I like how their personalities can help them become better, break each other out of their bad habits.

ETA: Also a Scott Pilgrim AU with Dirk as Scott and John as Ramona?

For the whole Genderbend M/F* idea, I figure it'd play out like John/Joan realizing she's a woman/enjoys being a woman more well into their relationship (possibly after marriage) and then her and Dirk figuring out how to redefine and continue their relationship with her being a woman (albeit one who still feels tied to gay male culture) while Dirk remains a Chill Homosexual, eventually going with the whole "life's too short to pretend it's not more complicated than labels" route.

Beta OT4: Ohhh these kids mean so much to each other. I love an interpretation where their weird little bond kind of isolates them from other people, whether by the experience of the game in a recreated Earth (the way people envisioned it pre-Earth 3), or by other ways. Aspect symbolism or a sort of low-magic like that is also really cool.

Them being, in some ways, more personality-shapes, forces of their aspects or their titles (Heir of Breath, et cetera), and then having to reconcile that with their humanity is an idea I really like for an darker take.

Genderbends: are a favourite of mine for this group. Personally, how I like to view it is cis Prospit twins Joan Egbert and Jude Harley that lean towards gender nonconforming due to being raised or their father having been raised by trans Jack Crocker and Jana English, and trans Ross Lalonde and Dana Strider being raised by cis kind of femme* Rory Lalonde and butch Dirk Strider.
*By kind of femme I mean in more of a narrative way than gender presentation way. I see him as mildly metro, but he's still got the whole <strike>wine </strike><strike>mom</strike> martini dad sex bomb thing going on.

Mom Egbert having a whole butch gentlewoman thing and partially passing that down to everywoman Joan, Jude Harley having a kind of feminine hippie aesthetic (still having long hair, switching between skirts and bell bottoms or something) while still playing into txoic masculinity masking his emotions beyond cheer and focusing on hypercompetence the way Jade does, elegant masculine Ross Lalonde struggling with Rory's negligence as a father despite his clear love for his son, especially since Ross was lucky enough to get a Kim Petras level early transition, Dana's post-ironic femininity and her belief that the physical "training" she gets is entirely necessary as a part of living in the world as a trans woman and more than an expression of Dirk's own trauma-borne paranoia grown from having grown up butch in the 80s/90s - that's all of stuff I see for them. Also while I still don't like trans angst to be the forefront of 'fic, obviously this idea will have to touch on it at least somewhat.

PsiiCon: The relationship so kinky TVtrollpes ran out of descriptors, or something like that. I feel a weird sort of affection, from the Condesce would be nice. You know, a sort of Hannibal-esque 'liking you is not mutually exclusive with hurting you' kind of deal. Maybe the Psiioniic comes to reciprocate in his own sort of way, and/or he's still torn by his attachment to the Signless, Dolorosa, and Disciple.

The Beatles

Fandom Specific Do Not Wants: SFF AUs, 'fic set before 1963, Genderbends/Trans Headcanons.

Fandom Specific Likes: Characters being fucking insane about each other while being unaware of how insane they are, Fluff, the work of maintaining a relationship.

McHarrison: There's just equal capacity for fluff and angst here... their closeness and also their distance. They're never beating the brother allegations... and, really, that brotherly relationship is the core here...the romance is just a cherry on top for me. Unlike the much mythologized relationship between John and Paul, the terribly ordinary and awkward one between Paul and George is incredibly compelling to me. To have known eachother for so long and from so early on, in hand with their conflict is certainly something.

An interesting idea is exploring a reality where their age difference is reversed (which normally wouldn't matter, but they're Them).

Paul mixing up their age difference with the one between him and Mike and George saying that their zodiac signs prevent them from getting along right after admitting he unironically enjoyed Give My Regards to Broad Street are always on my mind.

Beatles OT4: The four-headed monster. They way they were a little enmeshed group... it was a bit of them contrasted with the whole world, being the only people to know exactly what, well, being a Beatle was like, the graces and tolls alike. Like with all poly 'ships, examination of what each 1 on 1 dynamic is like is something I love to see, but the creepier, acting-like-one-person stuff is also something I'm in love with.

Slay the Princess

Fandom Specific Do Not Wants: Setting-Change AUs, Either version of the A New and Unending Dawn ending.

Fandom Specific Likes: Creepy/Twisted Fluff, their indomitable magnetism towards eachother, bullying the narrator, Not Really a Gender with she/her pronouns for The Princess/Shifting Mound and Not Really a Gender with he/him pronouns for The Hero/Long Quiet, Roleswap AUs.

The Hero/The Princess: I'm personally taking this to mean the Long Quiet/The Shifting Mound in the endgame, whether they become gods or go out the cabin, or just loop things forever. Either way, just seeing some more of their relationship in all its varied facets would be wonderful.
The Nightmare/The Hero: The Nightmare is my terrifying wife. The way her most human trait is her loneliness that splits her off from being a whole personification of fear and nothing else. And her personal philosphy about fear as a necessity is also cool as shit.

The Moment of Clarity/The Hero: And then she gets made even worse as the Moment of Clarity, having faced the mortifying ordeal of being known and then rejected... in that way, she becomes even more human. What Voice of the Paranoid said about no longer needing to stop organs from dying out of fear... in a way, it's kind of the horrifying pressing in so intimately it becomes mundane. I love futility as a narrative aspect, so her route really got to me.

Avatar: The Last Airbender

Fandom Specific Do Not Wants: Anything too based on comics or Korra canon, because I haven't paid attention to either, Major Character Death (Aang temporarily dying in "Crossroads of Destiny" doesn't count), Genderbends.

Fandom Specific Likes: Faffing about with bending, exploration of Aang's relationship to his culture.

Aang & The Gaang: I just love this kid so much and I love group dynamics and I like him being appreciated. Let him be with his friends!

Zukaang: Their relationship is so essential to the story of canon, even if for the longest time it's drawn out in parallels and motifs and implications. They are so important to each other on personal and narrative levels. You can write them as good (boy)friends, or go dark with them still being enemies. You can make them the same age or age them up if that helps your consicence, or not. I'm fine with or without the canon age dynamic.

Azulaang: I admit I'm not as well-versed in this 'ship but Azula is a very compelling character, and their whole speculative dynamic is pretty damn intriguing in the contrasts, and also hot. Same thing re: ages as Zukaang.

Zutaraang: My thoughts about Zukaang + wonderful Katara. I'm fine with it being a triangle or a V with Aang as the vertex. Like with all poly 'ships focusing on the unique dynamics between each members is wonderful, especially if you throw in messing about with romantic/platonic boundaries and each dynamic is a different notch on that scale.

Hannibal (TV)

Fandom Specific Do Not Want: Genderbends (except for Hannigail), Unreciprocated/Onesided Brownham, non-genderbent Hannigail (cis fem Hannibal/cis male Abigail), Major Character Death (Hannibal's in a Brownham 'fic doesn't count).

Fandom Specific Likes: Pretension, Some Stoned Vampired/Tell Me Will dialogue, Creepy/Twisted Fluff.

Matthew/Will: This is my indulgence semi-crack speculative 'ship. Mostly just a sort of softer, dedicated (though still probably obsessive) connection between these two back when Hannibal was at his height of Fuck Over Will Graham-iest. It can be bloody, or not! Depends on the morality of your Will, I guess. Matthew's awe and puppydog longing for Will is really cute, in a semi-creepy way, because this is still Hannibal.

Abigail/Hannibal: Yeah, so as my DNW implied, I'm only interested in this 'ship from a genderbent perspective. I feel like there's something interesting to be had with reversing the gender of the whole semi Electran thing going on with Hannibal's imposing older man/Abigail's young woman of wavering innocence vastly out of her depths - but without going stereotypical on the whole Oedipal/Mommy deal. I don't see fem Garrett Jacob Hobbs being much different from canon Garrett Jacob Hobbs aside from her sex/gender, and so male Abigail's relationship and the echoes on his relationship with fem Hannibal wouldn't drastically differ from the canon dynamic between Hannibal and Abigail.

The World's End

Fandom Specific Do Not Wants: Canon divergent 'fic where the apocalypse never happened.

Fandom Specific Likes: A clear sense of how much these characters mean to each other even if they don't say it, Andy POV.

Gary/Andy: The way they both hurt each other in their awkward teenage boyness (especially on Gary's side), and the loyalty that stuck through despite it all is so heart-wrenching and true. The sort of double-bladed sense of nostalgia is a big thing in this film, and I like to see that here. Major Character Death from the car accident where either of them dies is delicious food.

Community (TV)

Fandom Specific Do Not Wants: Genderbends, Major Character Death.

Fandom Specific Likes: 'Fics following canon's style, genre fuckery, a strong sense of place re: Greendale Community college.

Abed Nadir & Study Group: I just want to see Abed receive the support and care he deserves, and what he brings to the Study Group, essentially.

comments

They are pretty cute together already. Their thing is moving faster than I anticipiated. Now it'll be only a month until I get around to episode 2. (Dunno if it's just due to a lack of Hollywood, but two romantic leads who are in their 30s-40s and who look like people on the street is appreciated.)

Looking forward how they continue to deal with sexuality and queerness.

comments

With a very synthetic Strider sound, the track’s got a nice bouncy melody that serves as a fuller-realized version of the original “Anbroids” in the flash. Perfect for a rap-off.

comments

Dear Candy... Hearter?,

Thank you for writing for me, I look forward to reading your 'fic. My AO3 is Disworl. Herein lies my letter detailing a bit more of my specifications of my various requests. There's a lot of overlap between it and my requests on AO3, but it's got some extra stuff, because I'm a bastard like that. Maybe dreamwidth is also easier to read?

Iruma-Kun

Do Not Want: Explicit Sex or Porn Without Plot (foreplay, fade to black, and other bits of suggestiveness are otherwise fine and encouraged), Omegaverse, Pregnancy (Male or otherwise), Kid 'fic, Major Character Death, Non-con (unless the relationship is anagonistic in canon and thereby in line with that), Infidelity.

Likes: Earnest emotionality (let it be apparent how much the characters love each other, unless that contradicts the 'ship's tone), gore/body horror/anything playing with an intersection of sex/romance/desire & death (unless it contradicts the 'ship's tone)

Ameri/Iruma/Kiriwo: I've no clue how this would play out, but I'm game to see two 'ships I like combine. Maybe Kiriwo had some sort of redemption arc (though hopefully still being a damn kinky bastard, just with consent! this time 'round), maybe it's a dark AU (I can totally see how Ameri's strengths, when pointed in the wrong direction, could make her a fearsome figure.

Ameri/Iruma: Ah yes, the Manlet/Amazoness 'ship. Aside from just liking tall, badass women, I think what really gets me about this 'ship is how much the two think of each other. They both clearly think the other is the best thing since sliced bread (I mean, Iruma thinks that of multiple people), which is just adorable. They would make a really funny power couple.

Alice/&Clara/&Iruma: The chaos trio. I just love their whole back-and-forth dynamic, and how they're so comfortable being themselves with each other.

Kiriwo/Iruma: And compared to the triad with Ameri, this is just kinky. The two's, in some way, very polar natures, and finding out how to make it reconcile proves to be an interesting challenge. (Or not! It could also be freakily one-sided like it is in canon.)

Discworld

Do Not Want: Explicit Sex or Porn Without Plot (foreplay, fade to black, and other bits of suggestiveness are otherwise fine and encouraged), Omegaverse, Pregnancy (Male or otherwise), Kid 'fic, Major Character Death, Non-con (unless the relationship is anagonistic in canon and thereby in line with that), Infidelity.

Likes: Character studies, psychological/introspection, a strong sense of place re: Ankh-Morpork.

Moist & Vimes: This is my dudebro fan 'who would win in a fight' 'ship, except it's 'what would happen if these two dudes partly responsible for keeping Ankh Morpork from metaphorically or literally self-combusting met'. I think in Raising Steam or such it turns out Moist and Adora live near Sam and Sybil? House visits could be ripe entertainment.

RamVetVimes: The deal is that I really love SamSyb to the point I can't imagine VetVimes without her, and I think Raminari is an underrated dynamic. (She knew him growing up, y'all!)

Avatar: The Last Airbender

Do Not Want: Explicit Sex or Porn Without Plot (foreplay, fade to black, and other bits of suggestiveness are otherwise fine and encouraged), Omegaverse, Pregnancy (Male or otherwise), Kid 'fic, Major Character Death, Non-con (unless the relationship is anagonistic in canon and thereby in line with that), Infidelity.

Likes: Character studies, psychological/introspection, faffing about with bending.

You can write them as good friends, or go dark with them still being enemies. You can make them the same age or age them up if that helps your consicence, or not. I'm fine with or without the canon age dynamic.

Azulaang: I admit I'm not as well-versed in this 'ship but Azula is a very compelling character, and their whole speculative dynamic is pretty damn intriguing, and also hot. Same thing re: ages as Zukaang.

Homestuck

Do Not Want: Explicit Sex or Porn Without Plot (foreplay, fade to black, and other bits of suggestiveness are otherwise fine and encouraged), Omegaverse, Pregnancy (Male or otherwise), Kid 'fic, Major Character Death, Non-con (unless the relationship is anagonistic in canon and thereby in line with that), Infidelity.

Likes: Character studies, psychological/introspection, anything playing with an intersection of sex/romance/desire & death (unless it contradicts the 'ship's tone), a strong sense of place re: Alternia.

Solkat: I'm still 'shipping this in 2023 like a hopeless fucko in love - luckily, that works for these two!

SolAraKat: And so combining those two 'ships with the slightly morbid, MVP team of AraSol, you get this triad. I think they'd work well together in a quadrantless jumble, or in a flush/pale* or pitch/pale/flushed** or pitch/pale/flushed/ashen*** thing.

*Any combination of Red/Pale for the pairs.
**Pitch/Flush/Pale SolKat, Flush/Pale AraSol (though seeing Pitch AraSol could be interesting for the novelty), Pale AraKat
***Pitch/Flush SolKat, Flush/Pale AraSol, Pale AraKat, Ashen SolAraKat.

Sollux & The Psiioniic: I don't know, I feel the ties the trolls have their ancestors is really neat. Especially as before the dancestors, the ancestors were only considered mirrors of the trolls. If you manage to slip in some SuffPsii or Psiimaid, I also wouldn't complain. The tie of doom that bonded them in death is interesting, if macabre.

JohnDirk: Pranks and hijinks abound - two ridiculous brains being carried by meaty fleshbags being forced to be known and realize how absurd they both are. I like how their personalities can help them become better, break each other out of their bad habits.

Them being, in some ways, more personality-shapes, forces of their aspects or their titles (Heir of Breath, et cetera), and then having to reconcile that with their humanity is an idea I really like. Something a little in the vein of Closing Time by Cephied_Variable, perhaps.

PsiiCon: The relationship so kinky TVtrollpes ran out of descriptors, or something like that. I feel a weird sort of affection, from the Condesce would be nice. You know, a sort of Hannibal-esque 'like you is not mutually exclusive with hurting you' kind of deal. Maybe the Psiioniic comes to reciprocate in his own sort of way, and/or he's still torn by his attachment to the Signless, Dolorosa, and Disciple.

Community (TV)

Do Not Want: Explicit Sex or Porn Without Plot (foreplay, fade to black, and other bits of suggestiveness are otherwise fine and encouraged), Omegaverse, Pregnancy (Male or otherwise), Kid 'fic, Major Character Death, Non-con, Infidelity.

Likes: Character studies, psychological/introspection, 'fics following canon's style, genre fuckery, a strong sense of place re: Greendale Community college.

Troy&/Abed: True love is whatever Troy and Abed have. I just love their connection and how they just let the other be themself, in all their creative, childish glory. Dressing up as Calvin and Hobbes was absolutely spot-on, is what I'm saying.

Abed Nadir & Study Group: I just want to see Abed receive the support and care he deserves, and what he brings to the Study Group, essentially.

Abed Nadir/Jeff Winger: Harmon described their relationship as possibly the most important to the series, which I think is interesting, because it's pretty understated compared to Jannie or Trobed. There was an academic paper (the horror!) that postulated as Jeff and Abed as symbolic as the traditional sitcom form and the metatextual oddballness in Community, respectively.

Hannibal (TV)

Do Not Want: Explicit Sex or Porn Without Plot (foreplay, fade to black, and other bits of suggestiveness are otherwise fine and encouraged), Omegaverse, Pregnancy (Male or otherwise), Kid 'fic, Major Character Death, Non-con (unless the relationship is anagonistic in canon and thereby in line with that), Infidelity.

Likes: Character studies, psychological/introspection, gore/body horror/anything playing with an intersection of sex/romance/desire & death (unless it contradicts the 'ship's tone).

Beverly & Will: I love both of these characters so much and I want more of a view into their friendship and its benefits beyond being the reason for Beverly's death fueling his manpain/the plot. (If it wasn't clear, no dead Bevs here, please.) Ideally, from Beverly's perspective instead of Will's. I just want to dive more into her history and their comraderie. It can get dark and seamy, but I want their relationship to be without a doubt, beneficial, Let Will and Bev Have A Good Day style.

Will &/ Freddie: I've no clue how they could get together romantically, but maybe somehow it happens in a more Red Dragon-y universe, after Dolarhyde is killed by Molly. But I love Freddie and her pot-stirrin' ways, versus Will who does everything he can to have a normal life.

Beverly/Freddie: And similarly, I love these two fierce women who are strong in different ways. They're both clever and bold, but put it to use in very different ways. You could perhaps explore that and how it's borne of their different (actor-theorized) bad childhoods. According to Park, Beverly had an abusive father whom her mother divorced before remarrying another man, and according to Chorostecki Freddie grew up in an unstable household that forced her to learn how to spin a story to her advantage quickly, and well.

*

Annnnnnd here's the wildcard corner. I don't expect anything here to be written, but if it is, I'll be pleasantly surprised!

South Park

Do Not Want: Explicit Sex or Porn Without Plot (foreplay, fade to black, and other bits of suggestiveness are otherwise fine and encouraged), Omegaverse, Pregnancy (Male or otherwise), Kid 'fic, Major Character Death (obvious exception given to Kenny's immortality), Non-con, Infidelity.

Likes: Character studies, psychological/introspection, gore/body horror/anything playing with an intersection of sex/romance/desire & death (unless it contradicts with the 'ships tone), a strong sense of place re: South Park.

K2: I have a soft spot for genrebending into a sort of melancholic tone, with the town itself hanging like a long shadow set by a low sun. A sense of glaciality and frostbite on everything.

Stan & Kyle: Okay okay okay. The specific way I see this 'ship is that it takes from the codependence between Stan and Kyle in canon, and their general (quietly?) deranged need for each other you see in certain slices of Style 'fic, except it's a damnably platonic batshit super best friendship. I'm talkin' The Significant Other Of One Will Have To Deal With Also Sharing A Bed And House With The Other levels of batshit. I'm talking Never Even Considered Romantic Attraction As A Possibility Even With Compatible Orientations levels of damnably platonic!

SKKE: A chaotic, unbreakable-through-their-frequent-conflict quartet. More than breaking them down into pairs, seeing how they all do together is something I really like for SKKE. A thing I really like to see reflected in their group is the slightly metatextual subtext of peaked-in-Elementary, washed-up-third/fourth-graders that can often haunt fandom's trend of transforming canon down to reality (and now haunts canon a bit, too, given the original future timeline in the 40 year gap) - sort of reconciling their three dimensional, flesh-and-blood, no longer static selves in type versus their intentionally two-dimensional, construction paper-made, eternal funhouse mirrors of boyhood personas and pop culture spirits that exist on the screen.

'"Die bored, motherfucker", that's my favourite insult.'

The World's End

Do Not Want: Explicit Sex or Porn Without Plot (foreplay, fade to black, and other bits of suggestiveness are otherwise fine and encouraged), Omegaverse, Pregnancy (Male or otherwise), Kid 'fic, Major Character Death, Infidelity.

Likes: Character studies, psychological/introspection, just a clear sense of how much these characters mean to each other, Andy POV.

Gary/Andy: The way they both hurt each other in their awkward teenage boyness (especially on Gary's side), and the loyalty that stuck through despite it all is heart-wrenching and true.

Five Musketeers: I just the whole friend group deserves to love each other and shit. Probably an everybody lives AU, but it could also be between the blank young musketeers as they grapple with their concept of selfhood.

Mysterious Skin

Do Not Want: Explicit Sex or Porn Without Plot (foreplay, fade to black, and other bits of suggestiveness are otherwise fine and encouraged), Omegaverse, Pregnancy (Male or otherwise), Kid 'fic, Major Character Death, Non-con, Infidelity.

Likes: Character studies, psychological/introspection.

Brian/Neil: How they get on after the end of the film, and how that can branch into a relationship. Maybe it's them years or decades into the future, with their affairs as sorted as they can be, or maybe it's here, and now, and they're doing the best as they can, trying to sew sutures in the places where they're torn.

Wendy & Neil: Neil calls Wendy his soulmate. Wendy says, without hesitation, that Neil has a bottomless pit instead of a heart. Whether the two of them view their friendship differently in some important ways, or that both things are simultaneously true from both sides, this contradiction is begging to be explored.

comments

The remix is more energetic, but I like the slightly more somber and dire tone of the original.

comments

I've been playing Arcade Spirits recently as my second visual novel (my first was the good but nevertheless very straight guy orientated Starlight Shores, it took me a few minutes to realize Alec was not a romance option), and while it's been very nice, I've realized that my glacial pace and somewhat sporadic pick-up schedule in terms of playing it is probably because I already spend a lot of my time reading... books. Visual Novels are still definitely in the game category (I'm not taking Dear Esther but-is-it-really faffing about here), I experience them as games, I do not think of Arcade Spirits when I groan at my endless to-read list, I think of it when I groan at my endless to-play list, but nevertheless they are mostly reading! And making decisions, sometimes, in most visual novels (the ones without, so-described as kinetic, are arguably crossing into book territory - but they're still games).

Somehow this is different with Twine? I devour Twine a lot easily. Maybe it's because the Twine games I've played have all been short, and Arcade Spirits is a much bigger experience than Starlight Shores. Or maybe there is just something about Twine that groks me better.

And Parser 'fic... I struggle with that, but that's a whole different story.

comments

He's a good detective (notably real world good, not Sherlock Holmes good) who, aside from being lovably eccentric, is not a overeager smug judgemental asshole. I can enjoy it a much as the next guy (I mean, I'm on season 4? 5? of Elementary), but god Blanc is such a breath of fresh air. He's nothing but polite from the start, and I find what he says about his methods to Marta to be very telling:

“I observe the facts, without biases of the head or heart.” He outright acknowledges that the aesthetic of cool logic has its own dangerous flaws, as much as emotionality can bring, so much that he even places it first.

comments
